The following is from the Global Prayer Digest dated May 6:
God’s Name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.
In this rebuke of the Jews for their religious inconsistency, Paul
makes reference to Isaiah 52:5 and Ezekiel 36:21-22. It was an old
problem. The Jews, as God’s chosen people, had again and again violated the Law of God and lapsed into idolatry, immorality and economic oppression. The nations watched, and seeing Israel’s
disobedience, blasphemed instead of praising and adoring the Lord’s
Name. Today, the Lord’s Name is often blasphemed among many nations because of the behavior of Christians in the West. Our attitudes and our use of wealth often inhibit or even destroy our witness in the world.
Pray for purity in the Church so that the Name of the Lord will be praised among the nations.”
Lord, might I not compromise your house with impurity of any kind. Help me to become pure in mind, thought, and deed.
Ps. 119:9 – “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.” (NIV)
Josh. 24:15 – “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
