Was just reading the notes from the Don’t Waste Your Life conference by John Piper in San Luis Obispo, CA and he mentioned this verse:
I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord. – 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
The joy of Christ is that we would live full-out for Him without selfish ambition in our singlehood. The joy of marriage is that we would experience a bit of the mystery of Christ’s relationship with His church inside of our relationship with a spouse. Nevertheless, both require sacrifice and intense love…something we need Christ’s help to ever fully encounter.
I learned a lot this week about being faithful in prayer and not trying to manufacture things in my life. I learned a lot about not learning too much. I learned (once again) to be in love with my Lord. I learned to be patient with others and, no matter how mundane it is, bucket-flushing someone else’s mess is still an acceptable way to love God.
Grace and peace.
